SWEET COSMIC CITY
SWEET COSMIC CITY (2023–ongoing) is a hybrid city-creature consisting of a large video projection and an installation of textiles. The work blurs the boundaries between the digital and the real. Fragments of glitchy architectures from Hong Kong and Berlin morph, merge, and network in an endless embrace. In the video projection, scans with sharp-edged fragments of cityscapes are set in motion, orbiting each other like speeding celestial bodies. Outer and inner worlds pulsate and liquefy. The images in the fabric installation have a unique texture and glow, like the places and situations they were taken from. They have raw hems that emphasize their openness and looseness, hanging like clothes drying outside or items commonly displayed in city markets.
SWEET COSMIC CITY is a dreamlike, non-binary Heimat—a work in progress where distant, familiar strangers come together in a post-pandemic, post-gentrified, post-colonial future.
